Payments
Charge guests when they book. Stripe pays the money into your bank account.
TimeTide uses Stripe to take payments for your bookings. Guests pay when they book, and the money goes to your own Stripe account. TimeTide keeps 5% of each payment, and Stripe takes its card fees. This guide covers connecting Stripe, setting prices, refunds, disputes and payouts.
Table of Contents
1. Connecting Stripe
TimeTide sets up a Stripe account for you. Stripe asks for your identity and bank details in its own secure form, and TimeTide never sees them.
- Go to Settings — Open Dashboard → Settings and find the Payments card.
- Choose your country — Pick the country your business is in. It can't be changed later, because Stripe sets up your account for that country.
- Click "Connect Stripe" — Stripe's form opens. Fill in your details and your bank account.
- Wait for Stripe's check — The card shows your status: setup in progress, action required, in review, restricted or ready. If Stripe needs more from you, you get an email and a notification, and "Complete verification" opens Stripe's form again.
Once the card says your account is ready, you can set prices. You take payments in your Stripe account's currency.
2. Setting a Price
- Open an event type in Dashboard → Event Types.
- In its Payments section, turn on "Take payment when guests book".
- Enter the price. The editor shows TimeTide's fee on that price.
- Choose your refund policy: how close to the start a guest can cancel for a full refund, and what they get back if they cancel later.
- Save the event type.
Group Sessions
On an event type with more than one seat, the price is per seat. Each guest pays for their own seat, and a seat that's being paid for counts as taken, so the session can't overbook.
What Can't Take Payments Yet
- Team event types
- Event types where you confirm each booking yourself
- Recurring bookings
3. What Your Guests See
- Your booking page shows the price.
- After choosing a time and entering their details, the guest pays by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The time is held for 15 minutes while they pay, and going back lets it go.
- The payment step shows your refund policy before they pay.
- Once they've paid, the booking is confirmed. The confirmation emails show the amount paid, and the meeting link and calendar invite go out. Stripe also sends the guest a receipt in your name.
- If a payment arrives after the hold has ended, the booking is still made when the time is free. If someone else has booked it by then, the guest gets a full refund automatically.
4. Cancellations & Refunds
Refunds happen automatically when a paid booking is cancelled:
- The guest cancels: they get what your refund policy says. By default that's a full refund at least 24 hours before the start, and nothing after. The cancel screen shows the amount before they confirm.
- You cancel: the guest always gets a full refund. If you cancel a whole group session, every guest gets a full refund.
- The booking moves to another time: the payment moves with it. Nothing is charged or refunded.
You can also refund a guest yourself in your Stripe Dashboard. TimeTide records the refund and emails the guest.
When a payment is refunded, in full or in part, TimeTide's fee is refunded in the same proportion. Stripe doesn't return its card fee. A refund usually reaches the guest's card within 5–10 business days.
Note: You can't delete an event type, or disconnect Stripe, while paid bookings are still to come. Cancel those bookings first, so your guests get their refunds.
5. Disputes
If a guest disputes a payment with their bank, you get an email with a link to the dispute in Stripe. Stripe takes the amount, and its dispute fee, from your balance while the bank decides. Only you can answer a dispute, in your Stripe account. The booking itself isn't changed.
If you win, Stripe returns the amount. If the guest wins, TimeTide's fee isn't refunded.
6. Earnings & Payouts
Dashboard → Payments lists every paid booking with the amount, TimeTide's fee, Stripe's fee, what you keep, and any refund or dispute. Choose a period to see its totals, and export the list as a CSV file for your accounts.
Stripe pays your balance into your bank account on your Stripe payout schedule. Your balance and payouts are in your Stripe Dashboard, which you can open from the Payments page or the Payments card in Settings.
7. Disconnecting Stripe
- Open Dashboard → Settings and find the Payments card.
- Click "Disconnect" and confirm.
- Event types with a price stop taking bookings until you remove the price or connect Stripe again.
- Connecting again later sets up a new Stripe account.
- Your Stripe account stays yours, with its balance and payouts.
